Personal Health Insurance
What is Personal Health Insurance?
Personal health insurance covers you and your family for health-related expenses not covered by your provincial health care plan, such as dental care, vision care or prescription drugs.
Because provincial health insurance plans don’t cover all health expenses, it’s wise to consider closing potential gaps that could have a big impact on your finances. Personal health insurance products protect you and your family from additional expenses for preventive care or medical bills that may result from an accident or illness. Depending on the province you reside in, you may have to pay out of pocket for the following expenses:
- Prescription drugs to treat a serious or chronic health condition
- Emergency medical services while in another country
- Medical practitioners, for example a physiotherapist to help you recover after an injury or surgery
- Medical equipment needed to assist with recuperation and/or mobility
