Mission Trip to Northern BC
October 23, 2018Living Generously
At FaithLife Financial, we believe that being wise with money and living generously go hand in hand. Our new Mission Trip Benefit is available to our members* – providing financial support to help them live generously.
FaithLife Financial Member, Deanna Hautz received $200 towards the cost of her mission trip with the BC Mission Boat Society. Deanna traveled with a team of eight people to the First Nations community of Klemtu, BC – located located on the coast 500 km north of Vancouver, with a population of 400. The goal was to encourage the Christians living in the community and to share the love of Jesus with everyone.
The team spent five days visiting elders and other people who were housebound, they led Kids Camp in the afternoon, hosted a spa night for the women, and participated in the Sunday evening church worship service. They also took part in community events, to hear community stories and to encourage the local pastor, Andrew, a young man from Portland, Oregon, who has lived in the community for about 3 years. Andrew was an invaluable resource to the team, helping them to understand the local culture and how best to support and minister to the people of Klemtu. By the time the group left after just five days, they could identify by name 111 new friends from the community of 400!
Deanna said, “The mission trip was faith-stretching for all of us. It was a new experience for us to be part of a First Nations community in a cross-cultural ministry setting. We were welcomed warmly in a culture that highly values family, community and generosity. Each of us had opportunities to have meaningful spiritual conversations and prayer time with members of the community. Our congregation hopes to commit to returning to Klemtu for the next 4 years, and we thank God for the opportunity to share His love with the people of Klemtu, and to be blessed by them!”
