Acting In Crisis – Richmond families making an impact in their community

Reaching out to the community to make an impact during COVID-19

When COVID-19 struck North America, sending people hunkering down in their homes, creating so much uncertainty in our lives and disrupting the traditional supply of personal protective equipment, I began working with several families from different Metro Vancouver churches. We volunteered our time and resources during this pandemic to create face shields to protect healthcare workers from the real threat of death, while they attended to COVID-19 patients.

We responded to the crisis by bringing 10 FaithLife Financial members together with an Acting In Crisis Action Team. We were able to combine our individual seed money from this benefit, which allowed a community to purchase materials and supplies for a senior high school student in Richmond, BC to continue making 3D-printed face shields from his family’s humble backyard shed.

With BC health officials encouraging people to social distance, we were not able to meet face to face. Instead we used social media, tapping into our circle of friends and contacts, telling them about the project. All these efforts led to the donation of around 500 face shields to healthcare workers across North America and to long-term care residents and staff in Canada.

We are thankful that as a community we were able to show our healthcare workers how much we appreciate their service. They are the real heroes during this pandemic!

We pray that our simple act of giving can encourage you to give back to your local community and churches. Together, let us support each other though this pandemic.
