FaithLife Financial Responds to Wildfires in Fort McMurray/Alberta

WATERLOO, ONTARIO – May 6, 2016 – FaithLife Financial is responding to the Fort McMurray/Alberta wildfires with a $10,000 commitment in Special Matching Grants to support fundraising efforts through FaithLife Financial’s Chapters across the country.

FaithLife Financial is making $250 Special Matching Grants available to 40 Chapters. Funds raised through the Special Matching Grant will be distributed through Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) who are among those delivering aid.

CLWR Executive Director, Robert Granke said, "Canadians have been shocked by the terrible wildfires affecting Fort McMurray. We are moved to respond and offer assistance to those most affected by the disaster. CLWR immediately consulted with partners within the ELCIC and LCC and readily agreed that we should establish a mechanism to enable all Canadians and Lutherans in Canada to assist.

We are working collaboratively to facilitate support. The partnership of FaithLife Financial and its Members is very welcomed and appreciated, and will make a real difference on the ground. The consultation process is underway. Depending on the recommendations from congregations and the Church leadership in the affected area, we could see some level of short term assistance being provided initially and then resources used to help families as they begin rebuilding their lives and come to terms emotionally with such huge losses.

We give thanks for the efforts of all partners as we reach out to those affected. May God grant them safety and the knowledge of our solidarity and tangible expressions of assistance. We pray for the people of Fort McMurray."

Karen Bjerland, FaithLife Financial President and CEO said, “The Members of FaithLife Financial are exemplifying our core values of serving, giving, and showing kindness to fellow Canadians in Alberta. Our Members will be actively involved in fundraising to help with the wildfire disaster relief through their Chapters – expecting to turn the $10,000 aid commitment to $20,000 or more. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Fort McMurray/Alberta. We pray that our contribution will help with the much-needed relief efforts to rebuild in the coming days and months.”
